VISIONARY MINDSET
Sometimes, I find myself overthinking things that seem unnecessary at the moment. take my current role as sales representative at a freight forwarding company, for example. while my main responsibility is to focus on logistics services, my mind constantly drifts toward bigger ideas, like how different industries operate, how businesses thrive, and what opportunities lie ahead. it's exhausting at times, but I can't seem to stop myself from thinking about these "irrelevant" things.
For instance, I recently had a customer from China planning to expand their operations in Indonesia. They encountered issues with permits, which made me think: why should I limit myself to only providing services? what if I also learn how to assist with permit processing? it could be an opportunity to provide additional value to my customer and, at the same time, a valuable learning experience for me.
This tendency to think beyond my immediate role feels like a double-edged sword. on on hand, it drives me to seek growth and seize opportunities. one the other hand, it can be mentally draining when I don't manage it well. but I believe this mindset is more if blessing than a curse. Here's why:
The power of a Visionary Mindset
Having a visionary mindset means always looking at the bigger picture. it's about identifying gaps, solving problems, and creating value where others might now see it. Not everyone has this ability, and it can be a significant advantage in your career and personal development. in my case, this mindset pushes me to go beyond the standard duties of my job and think about how I can truly make a difference for my customers and my industry.
How to manage overthinking and stay productive
While this kind of thinking is beneficial, it can also be overwhelming. here are a few strategies I've found helpful:
1. Prioritize your thoughts: write down you ideas and categorize them based on importance and feasibility. this helps you focus on what's truly valuable and prevents your mind from becoming cluttered.
2. Take a break: A constantly working mind needs time to reset. engage in activities that help you relax and recharge, like exercising, meditating, or enjoying a hobby.
3. Break big ideas into small step: When tackling something new, like assisting permits, start with small, actionable steps. for instance, begin by researching the basic requirements or networking with people experienced in the filed.
Thinking too much isn't always a bad thing, especially if you learn how to channel your thoughts productively. the key to see your overthinking as a strength that help you grow and create value, not just for yourself but for those around you.
As I continue my journey, I remind myself that this mindset building the foundation for something bigger. it's not just about doing my job well; it's about evolving, learning and seizing the opportunities that come my way. for now, I'll embrace this mindset, even if sometimes feels like a burden. after all, every great idea starts with a thought.
